Mathu Recognition of Public Service Scholarship

This Scholarship was established to recognize the folks working to make La Crosse County a fantastic place to live. As an elected member of the La Crosse County Board of Supervisors since 2020, I’ve had the privilege of serving the area across three terms. This work has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it’s deeply rooted in my belief in the power of public service to make a difference.

Throughout my time on the board, I’ve seen firsthand the growing challenges facing folks who want to contribute to their communities in service-oriented fields. From safety and EMS to education and healthcare-many of these vital roles, including those within county government, are becoming harder to fill (and costlier to get trained in). These are professions that form the backbone of our community, and it is critical to support and encourage the next generation to step into these careers.

By dedicating $500 of money I earned as a county board member, I hope to provide a small (but hopefully meaningful) boost to a Western student pursuing an education in one of these critical service fields. It’s a way to invest in the future workforce of our community and to show that public service is a worthy path that’s supported and valued.

This scholarship is more than financial support; it’s a vote of confidence in the potential of someone who cares deeply about giving back.
