Raymond Bice/La Crosse Tribune Endowed Scholarship
Founded in 1904, The La Crosse Tribune is a newspaper published in La Crosse, Wisconsin, covering the tri-state area of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota in the USA.
Raymond C. Bice died in December 1994 at the age of 98. During his long and active life, Bice wore a variety of hats – founder of the Bice-Olsen Lumber and Millwork Co.; builder of more than 400 homes in the La Crosse area from 1924 to 1980; president of the Greater La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce from 1939 to 1940; member of a variety of civic organizations and county government boards and commissions; member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate from 1946 to 1968. His interests included magic and painting; he was an author and historian, and a frequent contributor to the La Crosse Tribune’s opinion pages.
In the fall of 1994, the La Crosse Tribune editor’s team decided to use funds raised from the first Reader’s Choice Film Festival, to endow a scholarship at WWTC in Bice’s name to recognize his contributions to the community and his lifelong interest in learning.
