Philip & Ginny Brochhausen Endowed Scholarship
Phil Brochhausen joined Western as a Printing and Publishing instructor in 1969 and will retire after 40 years in May 2009. He began his career at Western doing letterpress and offset printing along with image assembly and process camera work. He kept current with industry trends and so was able to go into the digital world by taking seminars and returning to industry in the summers.
At Western he was program head of the graphics, Advisor of the Year in 1971 for his work on the school newspaper, was president of the faculty association before there was a union and served on numerous committee’s.
He worked on the international scene by hosting instructors from Germany and went to Germany two times to see their training procedures. In 1993, he was there for 2 months helping in a printing company and took a one-week press course at the Heidelberg Company in Heidelberg, Germany.
In 1999, Phil was program head when the staff in the Printing and Publishing program received the Frederick D. Kay Education Award of Excellence for demonstrating innovative techniques and promotion of the industry. He is a dedicated teacher, teaching his students to aim for high goals to
work hard and to achieve those goals.
Phil wanted to support a Graphic Design in fulfilling their dreams with a scholarship and so his wife, Ginny, friends and graduates helped establish one.
