Lori M. Hoyum-Maurices/Dress Barn Endowed Schoalrship
Terry and Lori and grew up as neighbors being only two years apart. Terry says, “I married the girl next door as she was just across the field on a neighboring farm. We never gave each other a second look until her second year at W.T.C.(at the time WWTI) in 1978 where she was in the Fashion Merchandising program. We dated a couple of years and married December 29, 1979.”
Lori went to work for Maurices in July of 1982 working part time at what then was their Shelby Mall store. The Hoyums moved to La Crosse in 1983 and lived there for ten years. After progressing through the Bridgeview Mall store, Maurices Just Petites store at Valley View, and The Closet at Valley View Mall (also a Maurices store), Lori was promoted to manage the East Towne Mall store in Madison. In a couple of years she was given the added responsibility of being Area Manager for five other stores in addition to the day-to-day operations of her store.
After three years in Madison they got the call that she was being promoted to District Manager. They quickly moved to Northeast Ohio where her region was Eastern Ohio, Western PA, Northern WV, and part of Maryland. Three years later she had the chance to get back to her home area by taking the Cedar Rapids Iowa DM position. There she covered a large area of Iowa, NW IL, SW WI, and SE MN stores.
Sadly, 2004 Lori was diagnosed with cancer and began a three plus year battle with the disease. That battle included 30 rounds of chemo, 8.5 weeks of radiation, and three major surgeries. Through it all she continued her work. Her love for what she did kept her going.
She was with the company right to the end. Maurices was a huge part of her life outside of her love for her dog and Terry. Over 130+ company people who came to the funeral in Viroqua from all over the U.S. As much as she was loyal to the company, they proved how loyal they were to her.
