James Becker Endowed Scholarship
James Becker joined the faculty of Coleman Technical Institute, now Western, as a machine tool instructor in the fall of 1935. He obtained his Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees from Colorado State University. He also attended the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and Stout. Jim Becker retired on May 31, 1974; however, because of his expertise in Machine Tool, he was frequently called on to do part-time teaching. Jim died on August 22, 1976.
Jim was a gentleman and an outstanding teacher. The students dedicated the 1973-74 yearbook to their devoted teacher, Mr. James A. Becker. In the dedication they stated: “We appreciate Mr. Becker’s great knowledge and his warm understanding of his students, and thank him for sharing his background with us.”
His wife Mabel, Western staff, and friends established the James A. Becker Memorial Scholarship.
